Central Africa V1.0.0
Don’t let the version number deceive you – its our first Central-African classifier, but its performance is on a par with Southern-African V3.0.0!
As mentioned in our previous classifier releases, we are in the process of re-training our African species classifiers. In order to maximise performance, we have chosen to split out our singular sub-Saharan classifier into regional classifiers where we can drop non-endemic species, thus reducing the number of classes and preventing unnecessary confusion between similar-looking species.
In line with this, we announce the release of our new Central-African classifier which is intended to cover in and around the Congo basin – although your mileage might vary depending on your particular biome and the species present. As usual, please refer to the species list for each classifier and choose the most-applicable one, giving preference to most-localised regional model available.
This model drops a large number of non-endemic savanna-dwelling species in favour of the following:
- Gorilla
- Chimpanzee
- Kusimanse
- Red river hog
- African forest buffalo
- African palm civet
- African golden cat
- Bongo
- Water chevrotain
- White-bellied duiker
- Peters’ duiker
- Bay duiker
- Black-fronted duiker
Additionally, a general ‘monkey’ category has been added to better facilitate the wide variety of simians in the region.
As usual, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!
